Atlanta Trial Attorneys Launch Boutique Law Firm

Atlanta, May 11, 2020. Steve Councill and Josh Gunnemann announce the launch of their new boutique law firm, Councill & Gunnemann LLC. The firm will represent clients in high-stakes litigation and complex regulatory matters, and, in particular, focus on aiding investors in recovery of investment losses caused by financial-institution misconduct.

Councill & Gunnemann opens its doors in Atlanta amidst a global pandemic and the corresponding economic uncertainty. Steve and Josh feel strongly that they are well-suited to represent investors, business owners, and consumers trying to navigate these difficult times. The need for experienced attorneys to represent victims of fraud and corporate misconduct during these challenging and changing circumstances informed Councill & Gunnemann to initiate its launch.  

Founding partners Steve Councill and Josh Gunnemann previously practiced together at Rogers & Hardin in Atlanta, Georgia. Cumulatively, Councill and Gunnemann have more than thirty-five years of combined experience representing individuals and businesses in litigation and regulatory matters across the country. 

Steve Councill is a leading attorney in securities matters, with twenty years of litigation and regulatory experience. Steve began his legal career as a Securities and Exchange Commission staff attorney investigating securities fraud. He was promoted to Branch Chief and served in that capacity until he entered private practice. Steve and the team he supervised investigated a wide variety of financial misconduct, including insider trading, pump and dump schemes, and market manipulation. Steve represents clients in SEC, DOJ, FDIC, FINRA, and other governmental and regulatory examinations, investigations, and enforcement actions and in related private litigation, and represents investors who are victims of securities fraud and other financial misconduct. Steve has previously been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers, and is currently recognized as a “Georgia Super Lawyer” in Securities Litigation.

Josh Gunnemann is an experienced trial lawyer with significant jury trial experience. Josh has conducted internal investigations, litigated class actions, and tried cases to verdict against CPA firms, the federal government, and special prosecutors in administrative trials. Josh advocates on behalf of individual investors and other consumers whose funds have been misappropriated or mishandled because of fraud, negligence, or other malfeasance. Josh also leads Councill & Gunnemann’s corporate recovery practice, counseling and advocating on behalf of businesses that have suffered disruption or experienced other losses. Josh has been named a “Rising Star;” has received an AV Preeminent rating in Litigation, Business Law, and Securities Law (the highest rating) by Martindale-Hubbell; and has received Georgia Trend Magazine’s “Legal Elite” recognition.

In addition to representing investors, Steve and Josh will continue their practice of representing clients in commercial litigation and regulatory matters in arbitration, mediation, and trial across the country.
